In the pressure of a global economy with complex and dynamic market changes, it’s hard to imagine navigating these waters without a compass. I know the compass metaphor is totally overdone and I am personally so “over it.” But even so, you do need to navigate a constantly changing environment.
And I don’t know of any method that is so fast, so flexible, and so responsive as a strategic storyboard. Initially, perhaps it’s overwhelming especially when you think about getting all your plans, ideas, inputs and outputs into one place.
But if you’ve ever faced a software crash and lost all your written data…if you’ve ever had a document get lost in the mail and needed to quickly piece the ideas together…if you’ve ever lost sight of the true intent and vision of your business in the dangerous waves of “urgent” and “important” then you know why a storyboard is so essential.
It’s right up there on the wall. You can see it. You can change it. You can involve others in the story. You can adjust the words and images. It’s responsive. And it’s low-tech. So even by candlelight in a hurricane you know where your business is headed.
And that I’d say is why it is definitely worth the hassle.
