How Can You Insure That Your Presentation Will Fail?
How Can You Insure That Your Presentation Will Fail?
What’s the fastest way to guarantee that people won’t believe you?
Have a ton of typos all over your presentation.
It seems like a little thing. Kind of like something your high school English teacher told you. But, it’s true.
The people in your audience are registering everything. And they are looking at times for things that they can pick on. They may not pick on your research, proposition or solution.
But if your spelling is wrong–they can jump all over you.
Do not rely only on spell-check to review your presentation. Do a thorough read-through on your own. Ask a colleague to double-check.
Go through your presentation and check for consistency in headlines, fonts, logos, and spacing. It’s easier if you proof just one thing at a time–for example, check all the headlines. Then check all the bullets. Then check the sub-bullets.
Another pro tip from writers is to incubate. Put your presentation away for 12-24 hours. When you look at it after this rest time, you’ll spot errors that you missed the first time.
Whatever system you choose, make proofreading part of your ritual presentation preparation.
